Dariel Solutions builds PC lab at Vuleka
As a proudly South African company focused on creating world-class software architectures, Dariel Solutions has set up learnerships to encourage learners to enter the industry and to grow their skills. Additionally, Dariel Solutions sponsor Vuleka Schools with not only computers to ensure that underprivileged school learners have the opportunity of working with these tools at an early age, but also with networking, ADSL lines and Internet connectivity from Internet Solutions. The aim of this sponsorship is to provide a holistic computer experience that takes the children beyond the barriers of the classroom wall and gives them a foothold on the digital ladder.
"When we look at the fact that one of the key business objectives of many ICT focused organisations today is to recruit and grow their skills base, one has to start getting down to the root of the problem as to why such a large shortfall exists between skill supply and demand and what can and should be done to alleviate the problem," said Greg Vercellotti, executive director of Dariel Solutions.
"The shortfall is being driven by the increased demand for skilled and experienced software development staff, coupled with a decreased availability of such skills entering the market. In addition, our talent and skills are being attracted internationally which is a major concern for, not only the software and IT industry but, the country as a whole."
Vuleka started in 1989 as a response to the crisis in black education as township schools for the most part were under-resourced and many black parents wanted their children educated in a language that they saw as being essential for their children's future success. As such, the Vuleka programme was designed to put previously disadvantaged children into a more efficient branch of the education system and aimed to help children overcome the difficulties they faced when the medium of instruction was not in their mother tongue.
Powered by sponsors such as Dariel Solutions, these children have the opportunity to learn how to use the technology and connect to the Internet, giving them a foothold on the digital ladder. This initiative by Dariel Solutions is focused on finding, growing and retaining the right people, while at the same time addressing the need to bring previously disadvantaged candidates into the main stream.
"South Africa and the IT industry needs it's under privileged youth to start coming through the ranks and grow into senior roles which will assist in addressing the skills shortage we have and ultimately contribute to nation building," concludes Vercellotti.
