Dariel Solutions does its part to develop IT skills
Dariel Solutions, a proudly South African company, focused on creating world-class software architectures, announced the start of an annual sponsorship to promote ICT skills at one of South Africa's leading universities.
The sponsorship which began in February 2007 sees Dariel Solutions contributing to the social development of the youth in South Africa as well as encouraging learners to enter the IT industry and to develop their skills.
"The IT industry is certainly facing a shortage of skills," said Malcolm Rabson, managing director of Dariel Solutions. "This shortage is being driven by the increased demand for skilled and experienced software development staff, coupled with a decreased availability of such skills entering the market. In addition, our talent and skills are being attracted by more substantial packages internationally which is a major concern for, not only for the software and IT industry but, the country as a whole."
As part of the financial sponsorship, Dariel Solutions will be looking to subsidise a BSc honour student in Computer Science as well as certain projects which the university will undertake during the year as part of their computer science curriculum aimed at developing skills in IT. These sponsorships will not only be offered to previously disadvantaged candidates but those students who demonstrate passion and a desire to succeed in the industry and have excelled in their course at the university. Rabson will also be taking at the university to provide the students with real world experiences and the reality of the industry.
"The aim of this sponsorship is to create awareness about job opportunities that are available in the IT industry before the graduates enter the market place so that they become more aware of the fact that the industry values people who can write code," concludes Rabson. "Powered by sponsors such as Dariel Solutions, these graduates have the opportunity to not only grow their skills but also enter the market knowing there is a demand for their skills."
